We are delighted to offer this non-superwash woollen spun sport weight Merino Possum yarn produced by Wild Earth Yarns in New Zealand. An 80% Merino and 20% Possum Fur yarn, this yarn is beautiful for both super soft yarn lovers and woolly wool lovers alike. Our swatch yielded a beautifully balanced fabric with a gentle halo.
Possum wool is arguably New Zealand’s national fibre. It is astoundingly warm, shockingly light, phenomenally soft, and an absolutely luscious yarn to work with. Best of all, when you knit with possum wool you’re helping to control a pest that has wreaked havoc on New Zealand’s native life.
With fur similar to polar bears, their hollow hair shafts have another side effect: they make possum wool almost ethereally light. On its own, possum fur is so light that it will float away with a soft breeze. This lightness means that as it makes yarn warmer, it simultaneously reduces weight. It makes possum wool yarn lighter and warmer than cashmere.

Hand washing with wool specific soap is recommended. Lay Flat to dry.
The garment should be washed separately. For machine washing, we recommend that all wool garments be washed separately on a wool program, to ensure the gentlest treatment. Centrifuge well and dry the garment flat, preferably on top of a towel. Never use a laundry bag when washing hand-knitted wool garments. This creates friction that can cause the garment to felt.
