Learn to knit the Sk8er Hat, a fun and polished stranded colorwork hat worked from the top down. In this class, we’ll walk through the unique construction of the hat, including the circular cast-on, crown shaping, and stranded colorwork.  You choose if you would like to knit this hat on DPNs, Magic Loop, or on shorties.  I have had the best luck knitting this colorwork on shorties.

We’ll also explore the techniques that give the hat its distinctive finish, including using a German short row to turn the work inside out and creating a clean i-cord bind-off for the brim.

The combination of colors for this hat is limitless!  Choose 2 fingering weight colors and let the magic of this hat captivate you.  Yarns to consider include: Knitting for Olive Merino, Sandnes Garn Sunday, Fiber MacGyver Merino Twist, Newburgh Soft Sock yarn, Kelbourne Woolens Perennial, Farmers Daughter Fibers Bear Paw Sock

Skills needed: knit, purl, increase, familiar with a chart, familiar with German short rows, familiar with stranded colorwork.  

Materials needed: A copy of Sk8er Hat pattern by Maxim Cyr, 2 skeins of fingering weight yarn in contrasting colors, needles to obtain gauge, tapestry needle.  It is recommended to gauge swatch before the first night of class.
